Dezeen Awards 2021 judge Katie Treggiden

Katie Treggiden is an environmental design writer, author and consultant.

After a successful 12 year career in advertising, marketing and brand strategy she became a craft and design writer, exploring creativity as a positive agent for social change.

By the time she undertook a master’s in the history of design at the University of Oxford, she had written four books, established an award-winning blog and an independent magazine, as well as writing for The Guardian, Viewpoint, Design Milk, Crafts Magazine, Elle Decoration and Monocle24.

During her master’s she explored the question 'can craft save the world?'. She not only found the answer, but graduated with a distinction, the groundwork for her fifth book Wasted: When Trash Becomes Treasure (Ludion 2020), her podcast Circular with Katie Treggiden, and a series of keynote speeches for international events.

She continues to examine the role that craft and design can play in sustainability, and champions a circular approach to design.

Katie was the founder and first president of Bloom. She is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Trustee of the Leach Pottery.
