Stephen Burks for Artecnica
Milan update: more designer collaborations with developing-world artisans, this time in the shape of the TaTu tables designed by Stephen Burks and made by craftspeople in Cape Town, South Africa.

Fabricated from painted wire, the tables are assembled from three elements that can themselves be used as bowls, baskets and trays.

The project is part of Artecnica's Design With Conscience project and was launched at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan last week, along with the Campana Brothers' TransNeomatic bowls.

Here is a short statement from Burks about the project:
--
While on assignment in South Africa for Aid to Artisans as part of Artecnica's Design with Conscience project, Stephen challenged a local souvenir artisan working by hand in wire to try to make something larger.

The result is TaTu, an airy, visually pliant and weather resilient modular collection of side and coffee tables. Each table breaks down into trays, bowls and baskets. A one piece stacking stool compliments the collection providing the required seating.
