The new collection evolved from a body of work called Big, which designers Daniel To and Emma Aiston exhibited in Australia last year.

The range was exhibited at designjunction last month and includes a chair, a pendant light, a stationery container, and a combined wall hook and container, all of which are handmade in Australia.

"Our work is inspired by everyday things that many would not even give a second glance to," said designers, who have previously only created small accessories.

"This awareness informs the pieces we design - quite often the forms we see around us are used in our designs but completely removed from their original context."

The Mish Mash chair is made of solid rock maple, marble, resin and aluminium, and is hand made and finished by a local furniture maker.

"The Mish Mash chair is inspired by the mixture of materials and colours seen on the streets of Hong Kong and Japan," said the designers.

The Cherry on the Bottom pendant light – a conical spun-aluminium shade with a gold-plated ball attached to the bottom – references novelty erasers, most notably the sundae cup with a cherry on the top.

The die used for the shade was originally used for making croque-en-bouche, a French dessert comprising choux-pastry balls piled around a cone and held in place with threads of caramel.

The cast-resin Stationery Container evolved from the shape of a dining room light in Daniel's grandparents' Hong Kong apartment.

The designers describe the Wall Hook/Containers as "nothing more than novelty sized Tic Tacs". The containers are hand turned using solid white oak and the handles are machined from solid brass and then mirror-polished.
