Contour chair by Pearson Lloyd for Senator

Dezeen Showroom: British studio Pearson Lloyd applied circular design principles when creating Contour, a versatile chair made from recycled and recyclable materials for office furniture company Senator.

The Contour task chair is distinguished by its simplicity – rather than using complex mechanics, it aims to provide automatic ergonomic comfort for a wide range of bodies, on the basis that the same chair is often used by many different people within today's dynamic workplaces.

The Contour task chair is designed to suit a wide demographic of users

Adaptable rather than adjustable, the Contour chair has a flexible, sculpted backrest made from a single piece of plastic, along with a cushioned seat.

Pearson Lloyd designed the chair to align with circular economic principles – meaning that all of its materials should be able to be kept in a closed loop with nothing going to landfill.

It is made from recycled and recyclable materials

The backrest is made purely of recycled polypropylene plastic, while the removable seat and backrest covers are also available in 100 per cent recycled fabric.

This approach also means that Contour is designed for longevity, with all parts able to be easily repaired.

A choice of base options are available, including a swivel base with a tilt mechanism, which is recommended for longer periods of desk work.
